Department of Botany:North Lakhimpur College

Date of establishment of the department:   1966 .Major course in Botany was started in 1980.

Departmental Library:

 

        The department of Botany has set up a library of its own to meet the needs of the students and teachers. The library was started during 2002 with donation of Books and Journals by the teachers of the department. At present 346 books & 6 journals are available in the library. The English Daily "The Assam Tribune" is also available in the library

 

Annual Bulletin:

 

         The department publishes an annual bulletin every year since 2001.

 

Students recreation Centre:

 

          The department provides a "Students' Recreation Centre" for relaxation of the students. The centre is furnished with some sports materials as well as some Magazines and comics.

 

Botanical Museum:

 

           The department has set up a museum of botanical specimen, art & craft, chart & models, flower vase and other materials collected, created, designed and preserved by the students. The students are assigned these hand works to do entirely by their own  effort and all the preserved materials are regarded as their contribution to the department.

 

Students Wall Magazine:

 

            The departmental Wall Magazine named "Planta" was launched during 1999.Since then, the wall magazine has proved its potentiality to be an ideal platform to establish the ability of students in the literacy side.

 

Mushroom Cultivation Unit:

 

             The unit was started in the department during 2000. The unit has been able to grow and cultivate edible mushroom in a scientific manner with time to time experimental demonstration to the students and local people regarding the food value and market prospect of the edible mushrooms.

 

Botanical Garden:

 

             The Botanical garden of North Lakhimpur College was started during 1983 in a hactare of land towards the northern side of the college campus. The department of Botany took initiative to to seek assistance from the forest department, Govt. of Assam, North Lakhimpur division, and it was possible to establish the garden only because of the help and co-operation of the Social Forestry Division, North Lakhimpur. A large no. of Timber yielding as well as species of medicinal value are maintained in the garden.

 

Research Laboratory:

 

              A research Laboratory has been set up in the department during 1998. A no. of publications have already been made with the experiments performed in departmental research laboratory.
